MONDAY
If you loved Anne of Green Gables growing up, then you will love the Kindred Spirits Book Art Exhibition at Central Library. The exhibition celebrates the works of Lucy Maud Montgomery with speakers from the literary community talking about her works and influence. The reception for the exhibition is on Monday, where you’ll hear from special collections librarian Annie Murray, University of Calgary English professor Dr. Rebecca Sullivan and rare book seller and owner of Aquila Books Cameron Treleaven. Both the reception and exhibition are free to attend, and the exhibition runs all month.
TUESDAY
THIRD ACTion film festival brings a new documentary to The Confluence this Tuesday at 7p.m., Silver Screamers. The documentary follows a group of seniors who set out to make a horror film, and the creative spirit and friendships they form along the way. The horror movie they make, The Rug, features a rug which devours anything left under it. The documentary is both heartwarming and spine-tingling and a reminder that we can create amazing things, no matter our age.

FRIDAY
Local Calgary country artist Alex Hughes just dropped her debut EP Take Me Home, and this Friday you’ve got the chance to hear the tunes before she hits the Coca Cola stage at Stampede in July. Head on over to the King Eddy to hear the album packed with nostalgic country ballads, punchy breakup songs and pop-country jams with hooks you won’t forget. Be sure to pick up a vinyl print of the EP and a one-of-kind bolo tie created in collaboration with local jewelry maker Cinder & Sage.
SATURDAY
Half the art of creating a great cover band is nailing the name. The other half is nailing the sound. The Tragically Hip cover band The Hip Replacements accomplishes both. Catch them playing at the Dalhousie Community Association, and be sure to bring along some change for the cash bar and food trucks on site. Tickets are $42 online and $47 at the door. If you don’t want to miss out, be sure to grab your tickets early – these guys have been selling out shows for 20 years!
SUNDAY
There’s no better place to get yourself Stampede ready than at the Vintage Rodeo. Held at The Nines vintage store, this pop-up event features 12 western wear vendors, along with plenty of custom options from upcycled corsets to jewelry and trucker hats. While you shop, listen to live musical stylings of country band Bennet Mitchell and grab a cup of joe from the Parish Coffee truck on site. It’s free to attend, just bring cash for shopping and a yeehaw attitude.
