Tonight is your last chance of the year to catch Aria and Ales, an easygoing night out courtesy of Calgary Opera. Sip a cold one and enjoy tasty appy’s at Best of Kin as musicians and singers perform opera in the bar. It’s perfect for a date night and a perfectly casual way to experience opera. There are showings at 5:30 and 7:30, and tickets are only $20 in advance.

Alberta Theatre Projects’ newest production of Charlotte’s Web opens this Tuesday. This is ATP’s third time mounting this show, directed by hometown improv legend Rebecca Northan.

Broadway Across Canada’s production of The Book of Mormon also opens on Tuesday and shows at the Jubilee continue until Sunday.

On Thursday, The Screaming Goats Collective is making its Calgary debut with a wild weekend of circus performances. Free Falling is a double bill featuring Fish at the Bottom of the Sea — performed by artistic director Léda Davies — and In the Fire, performed by Holly Benedetti, artistic director of Femmes du Feu Creations. These shows explore loss and hope with unique circus apparatuses designed to support their stories and keep you on your toes! The show is performed at one of Calgary’s coolest art hubs, cSpace.

Friday is for the thrashards. ‘80s metal veterans Exodus are ripping into the Palace Theatre with support from Havok, CANDY, and Dead Heat. I’ll have to dig my patched vest out from the closet! Check thepalacetheatre.ca for more information, and don’t forget to bring earplugs.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? alumn Colin Mochrie and master hypnotist Asad Mecci are bringing Hyprov: Improv Under Hypnosis to the Grey Eagle on Saturday evening. This show is exactly what it sounds like live comedy under hypnosis, where anything is game. Tour dates and tickets can be found at hyprov.com; just be sure to expect the unexpected.

Also on Saturday is the Bingo Bags and Booze Fundraiser down at The Shawnnessy Barn, where you can play bingo to win designer purses and bottles of premium alcohol while raising money for the Believe in the Gold charity. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Wrap the weekend off with some local markets to get a headstart on your Christmas shopping. Crossroads Market is hosting a night market all weekend, with performances from Cirque de la Nuit.

On Sunday, the Calgary Video Game Collectors Show Holiday Market will take over the Acadia Recreation Complex, with over 60 vendor options for the geekier members of your gift list, and a $5 entry fee going to The Movember Foundation.
