MONDAY
Monday is the last day to check out ROOTS over at cSpace, a mixed media art show presented by artist Barb DeRousie. Inspired by her life growing up on Vancouver Island and her connection to her First Nations heritage, ROOTS takes an abstract approach to showcasing the beauty of nature. The exhibition is free to attend, so check it out before its gone.
TUESDAY
Head over to Dickens on Tuesday for They Got Talent, the mostly-weekly drag competition show. Hosted by Calgary’s beloved Karla Marx, each show features special guest judges and performances from new faces in Calgary’s drag scene, each putting their best foot forward to win the contest. Both casual drag fans and Drag Race enthusiasts will love this show — tickets are $10 at the door, and don’t forget cash for tips!
WEDNESDAY
Tuck yourself away in the Vern’s basement on Wednesday for another edition of Ratboy Comedy. This comedy show is a classic and a great way to learn some of the new and up-and-coming faces in Calgary’s stand-up comedy scene. Tickets are $5 at the door or on Eventbrite.
THURSDAY
Soak in the summer vibes on Thursday at Carifest, which kicks off with a cultural dance workshop on Thursday and runs until Sunday. Celebrate Caribbean culture and music at a variety of free events, ranging from up tempo parties to a chill-out reggae cooldown. Thursday’s dance workshop is held at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and you’ll learn Dancehall, Haitian Folkloric and Soca moves — all for free!
FRIDAY
It’s the 120th birthday of King Eddy this year and to celebrate, the National Music Centre is holding a three-day music festival, Eddy Fest. Catch a series of eclectic performers take to the King Eddy stage, including some who have performed there in years gone by and some new performers. This Friday, catch performances from Duke Domino, Ollee Owens Band and Brother Bicker Band. Tickets range from $15 to $120 for the whole fest.
SATURDAY
There’s an Easy Days Market on Saturday, a pop-up market series which turns the Riverwalk plaza into a bustling home for Calgary creatives, artisans, musicians and food trucks. Shop for one-of-a-kind finds, eat delicious food and soak up the sun and good vibes. It’s free to attend, so just bring cash for the goods.
SUNDAY
On Sunday, watch six of Alberta’s best bartenders go head-to-head at Espolòn Tequila’s Calgary Cocktails Fight, held at Commonwealth Bar and Stage. Over three rounds, these bartenders must show off their drink making skill and knowledge. While you watch, you’ll also get treated to two complimentary tequila cocktails, and a Mexican street food item from Native Tongue. Tickets are $25, available on Eventbrite.
