Going to Dickens early in the week is becoming a bit of a tradition. Dive into death metal as Gatecreeper takes the stage, with support from Eternal, Dying Remains, and Misyrion. Tickets are $42 via Ticketweb.

WEDNESDAY
Film lovers aren’t being left out this season, with festivals lining up one after another. Wednesday marks the start of Fairy Tales, one of Canada’s longest-running queer film festivals, now in its 28th year. The lineup brings together 42 films from 20 countries, running at Contemporary Calgary through May 17. Passes are $106, with individual tickets at $17.
THURSDAY
If you’re feeling Kind of Blue, head to the Attic for a two-night celebration of Miles Davis’s 100th birthday. It starts Thursday with David Lavoie on an electric wind instrument and continues Saturday with André Wickenheiser on acoustic. Enjoy world-class jazz alongside cocktails, pizza and pasta. Tickets are $30 at Eventbrite.
FRIDAY
Celebrate Star Wars with Calgary Phil performing Star Wars: Return of the Jedi live-to-film, featuring John Williams’ Oscar-nominated score. It runs at the Jubilee for two nights, with tickets starting at $34 for kids and $45 for adults.

SATURDAY
Candlelight Concerts brings a tribute to Queen to Studio Bell. Hear the band’s catalogue reimagined by a string quartet, swapping stadium anthems for a more intimate sound.
SUNDAY
Otafest wraps up on Sunday, and even if you’re skipping the main festival, you can still drop into the after-party at the Palace for an anime rave. Expect live J-pop idols, themed cocktails, merch and more. Tickets start at $27, and it’s 18+.
