If you haven’t caught it yet, be sure to snag tickets to Vertigo Theatre’s The DaVinci Code before it closes on Sunday. It’s gonna be one of your last chances to see a show before theatres close their doors for the summer, so get your fix while you can. Snag tickets from Vertigo’s site.

Watch some wordsmiths at work on Monday at Dickens for their monthly poetry slam. The featured poet of the night is Cobra Collins, a 2-times nominee for Calgary’s poet laureate. There’ll be three rounds of poets duking it out to make the winning spot. And if you’ve been holding on to a poem in your back pocket, open mic spots are also available. Doors are at 6:30, tickets are $10, cash only at the door.

Every Tuesday, head over to Magpie in the East Village for a vegan-friendly wing night. For $7, get yourself an order of wings with special sauces only available on Tuesdays, including Magpie BBQ, lemon pepper, and sweet and sour. And if you go between 5 and 7 or for a late-night bite after 11 p.m., you’ll get happy hour deals on drinks as well.

Grab yourself a fresh pair of sneakers for the summer at the Reebok Warehouse Sale at the BMO Centre, starting this Wednesday and running until Sunday. Snag sweet new kicks for up to 70 per cent off the retail price. Doors open at 10 a.m., but you’ll want to join the line early, because they’ll shut the doors once the sale is at capacity.

Calling all “Common People,” on Thursday, Luke’s Drug Mart in Bridgeland is hosting a listening party of Pulp’s new album More. Hear the new tracks a day early, and a giveaway for a chance to win an exclusive pressing of the album. CJSW will be on-site providing sound, and 100 per cent of coffee proceeds from the day go to supporting the radio station. The party runs from 4 to 8 p.m., and there’s no charge to get in, so save your coins to buy the album and some sick merch to go with it.

Learn to make art and care for the environment this Friday at the Life in Warm Colours sustainable art workshop at cSpace, running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s by local eco-artist Olamide Adedipe, who creates his work with multimedia and found objects. Learn to make your own eco-art, or just browse around the exhibition, which runs until the 30. Either way, it’s all free. And check out the Farmers & Makers Market on Monday afternoon as well!

Later in the evening, head to the Martha Cohen Theatre for a bit of ballet. Jeunesse Classique Ballet Society presents Giselle, a classic ballet filled with romance, heartbreak, and ghosts. The show only runs until Sunday, and tickets are going fast, so grab yours from the Arts Commons site before they sell out.

Start your weekend off right with a cartoon and cereal party over at Congress Coffee. From 10 am to 12 pm, pretend like you’re a kid again with cozy cartoons and unlimited bowls of cereal for just $5 – cheaper than buying a box at the grocery store. It’s free to attend, but be sure to reserve a spot at congresscoffeeshop.com.
