Squash Canada’s 4th Canadian Men’s Open runs from Monday to Friday at Bow Valley Square. Mohamed Elshorbagy, a former world #1 currently ranked #9, is expected to meet the second seed, Youssef Soliman of Egypt, in the finals, and it will get hectic! If you’re downtown this week, drop in to Bow Valley Square to catch the excitement, and head to squash.ca for more details.

King James, a play by Rajiv Joseph, opens this Tuesday at Alberta Theatre Projects. This play explores sports’ place in our lives and relationships in tandem with LeBron James’s career. Head to albertatheatreprojects.com for ticket information and a full run-down of performance times.

On the last Monday of every month, the Ship & Anchor turns into the video game arcade of your dreams, with $5 PBR cans and $3 corn dogs to make it all the sweeter. This month features guest curators hosting and selecting trivia questions, with prizes for first, second, and third places. And as always, 8-player Super Smash Bros on a giant TV. It’s free and starts at 8 p.m., so head over tonight!

Hosted by The Cabaret Company, GoGo Battles returns to Dickens this Tuesday for an all-out battle of satirical feminist wrestling, performance art, and mayhem. Karla Marx and Bitch Sassidy host; doors are at 7 p.m., and tickets are only $20, so what are you waiting for? This edition is entitled “Dark Side of the Boob.”

Head to The Establishment Brewing Company this Thursday for Radio Retro Name That Tune music trivia, hosted by Talespin Trivia! $5 gets you admission to one of the finest breweries in Calgary, and a whole night of brain-teasing music questions. Think you got what it takes to name a Pink Floyd song while drinking a pint of My Best Friend’s Girl? Make sure to go early and grab a table!

Speaking of music, the National Music Centre and Alliance Française present Kora Flamenca at Studio Bell this Friday. Experience a mesmerizing fusion of Afro-Mandingo rhythms and flamenco guitars, which has to be seen to be believed. Head to afcalgary.ca for details and tickets!

On Saturday, The Magic of London is lighting up Congress Coffee Company. A young magician presents close-up magic, card and rope tricks, mentalism, and more! London has received the Pacific Coast Association of Magicians (PCAM) Gold medal STAGE twice, the Gold medal at CLOSE UP and the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM) Youth Award of Merit — more details over at congresscoffeeshop.com.

End the week and start the month off with Morning Glory Burlesque Brunch at The Attic. Calgary’s only burlesque brunch includes $7 mimosas, a plant-based brunch menu, and sultry dancers spicing up your Sunday. And if that’s not your jam, take it easy at home with a lazy Sunday movie: I recommend a Gilmore Girls binge on Netflix.

Grab our March issue of The Scene on stands later this week for more events and things to do around the city.
