This week is full of last chances for you, Calgary.

This is the final week of the 2024 BUMP Festival, and on top of guided mural tours and workshops, there are two rad free events to check out: a screening of Chungking Express at High Park on Wednesday and The Trinity KiKi Ball & Rave in the alley behind the Danish Canadian Club on Saturday to wrap things up with bumping DJ beats and a whole lotta vogue dancing.

This week is also your last chance to catch the immersive Disney Animation exhibit at the BMO Centre: tickets are available Wednesday through Sunday, but they’re going fast!

The weekend is a doozy as the festival season in the blue-sky city wraps up:

  • Catch some fireworks at Globalfest, which kicks off on Thursday and runs into next week at Elliston Park.
  • Carifest is taking over Olympic Plaza over the weekend with free Caribbean music and nonstop partying.
  • Meanwhile, Expo Latino is at Prince’s Island Park, bringing the heat, the music, and the vendors at their free event.
  • If swords and jousting is more your vibe than music, check out Summer Skirmish at the Military Museum on Saturday and Sunday, featuring re-enactments of gladiatorial combat, musket skills, and more.
  • For the reptile-heads, the Western Canadian Reptile Expo & Tropical Plant Show is also going down at the Seven Chiefs Field House over the weekend.
  • And whether you’re a devoted golf enthusiast or simply looking to support a worthy cause, you gotta check out the Rogers Charity Classic at the Canyon Meadows Golf Club. Check their websites for ticket information.

Music fans are also in luck this week.

  • Country Thunder is bringing rollicking tunes and country attitude to The Confluence all weekend, with headliners like Dallas Smith sharing the stage with local heroes like Mariya Stokes.
  • Martin Kerr is bringing his folk anthems, presented by Jubefest, to the Jubilee this Saturday.
  • Local psyche rock prodigies Cheer is also playing a banger at the Palomino later that night to celebrate an album they just dropped.
  • And Rocking 4 Dollars is back in action this Thursday at the BLOX Arts Centre, with loads of bands playing quick 15-minute sets and spinning a wheel for prizes.

If answering fun questions is your bag, Talespin Trivia is all over the city this week. Head to Citizen Brewing on Monday for their monthly general trivia night, then head to Two Pillars Brewing on Thursday for even more general trivia before ending the week on Friday at The District downtown for Marvel trivia. Perfect timing if you just saw that Deadpool movie! Check Talespin Trivia’s Instagram for more information.

Pick up the August copy of The Scene for more events and things to do around the city.
