Few things scream “summer is here” like a hot dog and a cold beer.
The only thing better? Enjoying a meat rocket while raising money for a great cause.
With that in mind, rejoice, Scenesters, as the first annual Dog Days is upon us. This hot dog festival features nearly 50 restaurants across Calgary, each offering a wild and creative take on the classic ballpark food. $1 from each dog sold is donated to the Pet Access League Society.
The kick-off party took over the Cold Garden patio on May 23. The Dogfather food truck was on-site slinging their own Dog Days entry (the “Cheesy Pawrito,” which comes dressed with queso and Doritos), as was Frankies Dogs. Each pint of Pool Party ale also donated a dollar to PALS. 90.3 AMP Radio was even hanging out, with a raffle to win tickets to the upcoming Oxford STOMP festival.
Celebrating hot dogs at a dog-friendly brewery felt just right. The sun was shining, the (normal) dogs were panting, and the (hot) dogs were sizzling on the grill, sending an aroma across the patio that can best be described as “smoked meat heaven.”
Relive the party below, and grab a glizzy this week. Dog Days runs from May 23 to June 6.
