MONDAY
Every Monday, check out Monday Rap Nights, hosted by Tribe Art Society held over at the Werklund Centre. Every Monday, hip hop and rap lovers come together for a sober evening of networking, snacks and of course, throwing down some sick bars. The event is 18+ and completely free.
TUESDAY
If you’re trying to learn a new language, then the Sip and Speak Language Social over at charbar is where you’ll want to be on Tuesday. On Connie & John’s Rooftop overlooking the Bow, you’ll find folks speaking languages from around the world, enthusiastic to share their knowledge. There’s no expectation of fluency, so show up how you are and have a good time. Tickets are $11.98, available on Eventbrite.
WEDNESDAY
Wednesday marks another edition of The Confluence’s Classics and Crafts series, this time featuring the 2017 coming of age film, Lady Bird. Classics and Crafts is a great opportunity to bring your at-home hobby out into the world for a chance to socialize and bond with fellow cinephiles. Tickets are $12 and include the movie, a small bag of popcorn and after hours admission to The Confluence.
THURSDAY
There’s another movie-viewing opportunity on Thursday with Movie on the Rise. Pack up your picnic blanket and head over to The Rise at St. Patrick’s Island for two nostalgic films, A Bug’s Life at 7:30 and 10 Things I Hate About You at 9:30. It’s free to attend, but you may want to bring some cash to buy some snacks.
FRIDAY
On Friday, have some childlike fun without the children over at Cobb’s Adventure Park for their adults only night. Running from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., see up close various creatures like wallabies, iguanas and goats, navigate through mazes, play mini golf and more. From 7 to 9 p.m. there’s live music from one-man-band performer Paul Woida. Tickets are available on the Cobb’s Adventure Park site for $33.90.
SATURDAY
Vancouver heavy metal band Iron Kingdom arrives in Calgary on Saturday as part of their cross-Canada tour promoting their sixth studio album “Shadows and Dust.” Thrash it out at Dickens to a high-energy performance full of unapologetic traditional heavy metal tunes. Joining the stage are old school thrashers W.M.D, and local bands The Cadavor Dog and Lover. Cover is $20, available on Eventbrite.
SUNDAY
Get ready for a full afternoon of movie-watching on Sunday with the Alberta Indie Film Throwdown. The five hour event is split into two blocks, during which you’ll see a variety of short films made right here in Alberta. Ask your burning filmmaking questions during the Q&A session breaking up the film blocks. Tickets to the Throwdown are pay-what-you-can – every little bit helps support Alberta film!
