On Monday, head over to Waves Coffee on 8th and 8th for Shockwaves Comedy, its weekly comedy open mic. Laugh to the newest voices in Calgary’s comedy scene, and if you’re feeling brave, take your tight five to the stage yourself. Admission is $10 and includes a $5 credit towards a food and drink purchase.
TUESDAY
Broadway Across Canada’s production of Clue starts on Tuesday. A rare non-musical offering for Broadway Across Canada, Clue is based on the beloved board game and cult classic 1985 film. It’s a tight one-act show packed full of laughs that you won’t want to miss.
WEDNESDAY
Catch the Calgary Wild play against the Ottawa Rapid this Wednesday at McMahon stadium. This “Dog Days of Summer” match takes place about halfway through the Wild’s season. Tickets start at just $29.40, so save some of that cash to get yourself some stadium nosh like tacos in a bag.
THURSDAY
Thursday marks the beginning of two of Calgary’s most different music festivals. While acoustic guitar-wielding singer-songwriters take to the outdoor stage of Calgary Folk Fest, thrashers clad in leather are breaking out the ear plugs for some heavy industrial beats at Dickens’ Terminus Festival. No matter your music taste, you’re in for a great weekend of jamming out at either of these fests.
FRIDAY
If you’re the kind of person who memorized the Bee Movie opening monologue for the meme, then you’ll want to head to The Confluence on Friday for the Creepy Crawlies Trivia Showdown. In teams you’ll answer questions of historical bug facts, bug trivia and yes, bugs in pop culture. Team registration costs $25 and there’s prizes for first and second place!
SATURDAY
Soak up the sun this weekend at River Hall, the summer event series taking place downtown. Thursday through Sunday until the end of September, check out markets, concerts, workshops, delicious food and drink offerings, and more. This Saturday features the season’s first “Flow by the Bow” yoga session and free balloon animals for the kids – or you (we don’t judge).
SUNDAY
Sunday is a special day for your furry friends, because it’s the Day of the Dog, a one-day pet festival taking place in the East Village. Enter your pup in one of the races – there’s breed specific races and general races for all breeds. Shop the exhibitors for some swag for you and your dog, and take a break from the heat at the doggy pool party. And don’t forget to take a pic at the photo booth before you go – they’ve got plenty of costumes that’ll make your pooch look paw-some.
