What To Do This Week (May 4 – May 10)

MONDAY

“May the fourth be with you” when you flex your Star Wars knowledge at Euphoria Cafe’s Star Wars trivia night. The night will include three rounds of trivia, with the questions getting harder each round. Teams consist of four people, but don’t worry if you don’t have enough pals to bring with you – incomplete teams are paired together, giving you the chance to make friends with a fellow Star Wars aficionado. Tickets cost $20 per person and include one drink of your choice.

TUESDAY

Fate has smiled upon us this year, because Cinco de Mayo fell on a Tuesday. For this special occasion, Blanco Cantina is upping its Taco Tuesday game by adding tequila deals into the mix. Enjoy the usual half-price regular tacos and $5 off premium tacos, and make it a party with half-price Patrón tequila. Reserve a table in advance so you don’t miss out on the fun!

WEDNESDAY

Check out the Ship and Anchor on Wednesday for the spring edition of Ship Hop, the Ship’s quarterly hip-hop showcase. Learn the names of Calgary’s up-and-comers in the hip hop and rap scene, including Saint Heston and Ricca Razor Sharp. If you think your rhyming skills are ready for the stage, take part in the open mic, or go head-to-head in one of the night’s rap games – there are prizes for the winners! Admission is free, so grab a drink and soak in the lyrical magic.

THURSDAY

If you’re going to be spending the day at the office, why not make it more fun by taking part in Calgary’s 19th Bike to Work Day on Thursday morning? Kick off the day over at Delta Gardens for a free pancake breakfast. Grab a hot cup of coffee and check out vendors including Bow Cycle, Ridley’s and Mountain Equipment Company. Grab cycling swag, get a free bike tuneup and enter for the chance to win a free bike. After you leave the main event, keep an eye out for more tents along your route to work – vendors are located throughout downtown with even more goodies.

Don’t have a bike? Hop on a Neuron e-bike or scooter and use codes BTWD1 or BTWD2 for $5 off your ride.

FRIDAY

The Calgary Art and Craft Market kicks off this Friday at the Triwood Community Association. With local vendors selling a variety of handmade jewelry, home decor and other crafts, it’s the perfect opportunity to pick up a Mother’s Day gift. Take a break from shopping by attending a live art demonstration, or grab a bite to eat from one of the local food vendors. The market runs all weekend, with more weekends cropping up throughout the summer.

SATURDAY

Calgary craft brewery Annex Ales turns nine years old this Saturday, and they’re holding a birthday bash to celebrate. Head to the taproom for an all-day party with live music from local performers Sargeant X Comrade, Beta Boys and DJ John Radu. Fill your belly with a hotdog tower from Lil’ Empire Burger and wash it down with Annex’s anniversary beers and wacky drink specials.

SUNDAY

Celebrate Mother’s Day with the classic movie musical Mamma Mia! over at The GRAND. Along with the beloved flick, enjoy a snack box from catering company Brie and Banquet. Their snack boxes are known for being just as visually appealing as they are delicious, filled with curated cheeses and charcuterie – a Lunchable for the discerning adult. Tickets are $30 and include the movie, snack box and a Dancing Queen mimosa (or other drink of choice)
