What To Do This Week (December 15- 21)

The Suburbanators. Film still: burnsfilm.ca

MONDAY

Start Monday dancing. Willow Ridge Community hosts the Stompasaurus Christmas Party, featuring Christmas song–swap dances, Country Swing, and line dancing. The party runs from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. Tickets are $15. Don’t forget your Christmas costume!

TUESDAY

Sink into A Kinda Dukish Evening, a dive into Duke Ellington’s iconic sound performed by the Calgary Jazz Academy Big Band with support from the Calgary Jazz Orchestra. Three jazz combos will add their own spark. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Foothills United Church.

WEDNESDAY

Nothing feels cozier than dinner and a Christmas movie in one night, and Heritage Park leans right into that. Enjoy a three-course meal in the vintage glow of Gasoline Alley Museum, then settle in for a classic film on the big screen. On Wednesday, catch The Sound of Music.

THURSDAY

Be part of the C of Red on Thursday as the Calgary Flames take on the Seattle Kraken at the Dome. Fingers crossed they bring the goods, it’s been a rough season! Tickets start at $35 on ticketmaster.

FRIDAY

If you’ve already checked off festive drinks, movies, and markets, try a little comedy. Head to The Canadian Brewhouse in University District for a Christmas comedy night hosted by FunnyFest Calgary. Three comics, headlined by Dave Nystrom, will bring the laughs. Tickets are $25.

SATURDAY

Celebrate 30 years of The Suburbanators and the film’s vinyl release at Palomino. This cult-classic Calgary road-movie/comedy hybrid follows estranged slackers drifting through strip malls and subdivisions. Get ready for some prime Cowtown nostalgia. Vailhalen, Salt Horse, The Lovebullies, and Heartbreak Etctera will join the party by performing songs from The Primrods, Wagbeard, Field Day, Maud, The Parkades, and more.

SUNDAY

Embrace Christmas the Western way at Stampede Park. Expect sparkling lights, hot cocoa, live entertainment, and plenty of family-friendly activities — all free. Ya-Ho-Ho!
