While the internationally recognized Pride Month may be long in the past, Calgary’s celebrations last all year round.
QUEER CALGARY
Whether you’re sporty, nerdy, or crafty, Queer Calgary has a meetup for you. Every Monday at 7 p.m., check out the arts and crafts night over at Bell’s Cafe. Every Thursday, Queer Calgary takes over the top floor of The Sentry Box for an evening of board games, starting at 6 p.m. Twice a month, tie up your skates and roll around at House of Skate for queer roller skating. Be sure to follow Queer Calgary’s event calendar for more events at queercalgary.ngo/event-calendar.
THE ATTIC
If there’s one bar in town that’s an absolute treasure-trove for queer-friendly entertainment, it’s The Attic. There’s always an event around the corner, whether it’s the comedy open mic Laugh Loft held every Sunday at 7:30 p.m., hosted by the inimitable drag queen Karla Marx, or the recurring classic Carly’s Angels drag show. Between the regularly scheduled entertainment, extra events are always popping up, like drag and burlesque brunches. Check out our full profile of The Attic here.
PRIME TIMERS
For the older men around town, Prime Timers is the place to be. Prime Timers holds several weekly activities for mature gay and bisexual men to chat and socialize, starting on Mondays at 5 p.m. with dinner and billiards at Mr. Schnapp’s Pub & Grill. On Tuesdays starting at 6 p.m., gear up for a few rounds of lawn bowling over at Calgary Lawn Bowling Club. And for a great start to the weekend, hit the Saturday morning coffee social at Good Earth coffeehouse at 10:30 a.m. They also host events on the holidays so no one has to spend them alone. Prime Timers has an annual $30 membership fee. For membership and more event information, visit chapters.theprimetimersww.com.
