Calgary Creatives: Wunmi Idowu

Born in Nigeria and based in Calgary, Wunmi Idowu is an award-winning dance artist, filmmaker, actor, consultant, and producer. She’s also the founder and director of Woezo Africa Music & Dance Theatre Inc. since 2006 and founded the Black Arts & Culture Council (BACC).

Guided by the belief that arts, culture and education provide avenues to advance growth and development while impacting globally, Idowu has ardently advocated for the increased representation of ethnically and culturally diverse artists in Canada.

Among several awards to her credit in the arts and culture sector are the 24th Annual Immigrants of Distinction and Avenue magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 class of ‘21.
