Calgary Creatives: KTheChosen

Raised in Zimbabwe and currently based in Calgary, KTheChosen is known as your friendly neighbourhood rapper who creates entertaining and enlightening music.

K, as he is affectionately known, believes in the power of storytelling and uses his voice to share the experiences of those around him.

Since 2015, K has self-released several projects, leading to his being named in the Herald’s Top 20 Compelling Calgarians for 2022. He has also been nominated twice for the YYC Music Awards Rap Recording of the Year in 2022 and 2024.

1. “Arts Commons is one of my favourite arts organizations due to the wide selection of world class shows you can enjoy regardless of if you’re into theatre, live music or documentary screenings. They are also such a champion of local arts and have supported my journey through numerous performance opportunities and a fantastic learning experience through the TD Artist Incubator program.”
2. “3rd Verse Studios has been my go to location for recording my most recent work. Conveniently located one block away from the Best Buy on 17th Ave, the studio space is a great place to record music (and podcasts) and the team there also hosts events like Jollof & JAM.”
3. “The Alcove Centre for Arts is a newer community hub but represents a space that was much needed by the city. Essentially a YMCA for the arts, any level of creative can go and pick up an instrument, work on a puzzle, attend a workshop or just hangout in the easily accessible spot just across from the TD Core Shopping Mall train stop downtown.”
4. “Panel One is an amazing comic book convention celebrating creators from across Alberta. As a giant comic book nerd, I always leave the expo having spent more money than I was planning to with no regrets!”
5. “The Ship & Anchor is by far my favourite bar in the city! Super friendly staff, good live music and yummy food. Ship events are super memorable and I’m honoured to be the current host of  the Ship Hop Showcase. It’s a free quarterly hip hop event with open mic, rap games and performances by upcoming Calgary artists!”
