Meet the creative duo behind some of Calgary’s most vibrant Bollywood-inspired performances. As the founders of Sparq Productions, Tania Lemos and Vishal Malpuria showcase performers of all backgrounds and skill levels, giving local dancers a platform and the space to perform.
After years of dance experience, the Malpurias originally planned to open a Bollywood dance school in Calgary, but quickly realized there were limited spaces for them to perform, which inspired their production company.
Together they continue to shape Calgary’s cultural landscape with their vibrant performances, connecting people through dance, music and community.
1. “We like going for shows, you know, whether it’s live performances, dance shows, musicals, or concerts. We love going to the Werklund Centre, to the Jack Singer, and Studio Bell.”
2. “[We] love the Grey Eagle for the sound and light package that they have. So everything [venue] is a little different, right? They have a fantastic built-in light and sound package. [We] love the Jubilee and the Jack Singer for its acoustics.”
3. “[We] love Thai food, so [we] love Jurees. They have this lemon-pepper fish; it’s whitefish. It’s delicious.”
4. “[We] think the DJD Dance Centre is one of the best studios we have in the city. Their space is awesome. It has been our home for the last, [we] don’t know, 18 years maybe. They truly have a beautiful space and the vibe, you know, it’s so positive the minute you enter the building and the studios, there are dancers all around. You go into your space, and it’s just amazing.”
