The YYC Music Awards Gala, held at the Grey Eagle Casino Event Centre this past Sunday, celebrates each corner of Calgary’s vibrant music scene.
Some of this year’s honorees include psych-rockers Kue Varo & The Only Hopes, Edmonton rapper K-Riz, and Indigenous songwriter Troy Kokol. The evening was rounded out with bangin’ live performances from the likes of Shane Ghostkeeper and Tea Fannie, as well as music videos from Ginger Beef and The Royal Foundry.
Presented by Craig Senyk Initiatives, this year’s gala was the 9th edition of the awards show, which was hosted by local songwriter and host Lisette Xavier. Some other big awards of the night included The Prairie Emporium‘s Dan Clapson for “Industry Person of the Year” and Cabrakaän for “Metal Album of the Year.”
