This year, it’s been May showers that are (hopefully) bringing June flowers.

Either way, start the month celebrating Calgary’s chaotic weather on Citizen Brewery’s gorgeous patio with their bi-weekly trivia night this Monday. Talespin Trivia hosts this event and features multiple rounds of general knowledge questions and minigames with prizes. Entry is just five bucks, and your team can have up to six people. Make sure to show up early to grab a drink and a snack before the fun starts. We recommend starting with the Citizen Burger and the Batch 1 Session Ale.

On Thursday, head to the Pinebrook Golf & Country Club to move your hips and support the Embrace International Foundation with the Groove for Good Gala fundraiser. This event raises money to help children living with disabilities. Enjoy a silent auction, a cash bar, gourmet food, an open dance floor, and a performance from The Frontiers, all while raising money for a great cause.

It’s the market season in Calgary, and you can kick things off by heading to the Inglewood Night Market on Friday. With over 100 local artisans, live music, and a beer garden, this is a great way to kick off the summer in one of Cowtown’s coolest neighborhoods.

If you’re hungry for more, Market Collective also takes place over the entire weekend at Contemporary Calgary, celebrating its sweet sixteenth year of presenting. With dozens of local makers, artists, and food trucks, this Calgary tradition isn’t to be missed. Tickets are seven dollars at the door, and anyone under 12 gets in free.

You have a few options to end the weekend on a high note. On Friday, the Stampeders kick off their season playing against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium. Is there anything better than a Spolumbo’s sausage and a football game in the sun?

If you’re more nerdily inclined, check out AärdCON at the Renfrew Community Association on Saturday afternoon. This is an all-day celebration of tabletop gaming, dungeons and dragons, fantasy art, and all things geeky. There are also panels, hands-on workshops, and even a mini-painting competition open to all adventurers.

Saturday night is your final chance to catch Vertigo Theatre’s production of Ms. Holmes & Ms. Watson, a gender-swapper spin on the classic Sherlock Holmes tropes that has locals talking. Professional theatre takes a bit of a break through the summer, so this is one of your last chances to catch a local production onstage in the next few months.

For more events and things to do around the city, pick up our June issue of The Scene, which hits stands this week.
