Monday

Got bars? Or just an appreciation for people who do? Tribe Artist Society’s free Monday Rap Night brings together snacks, a mini workshop and an open cypher in a welcoming, Indigenous-led space at the Werklund Centre. Ready your rhymes and come spit some during the cypher, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday

Husband-and-wife music duo The Chandeliers are bringing a warm, nostalgic mix of familiar tunes from the 1940s through to the mid ‘70s to Congress Coffee this Tuesday night. Entrance is free, but the coffee is presumably not.

Wednesday

Spend some time daydreaming with a midweek art break. Blueprints of a Dream pairs the bold, pattern-rich work of artist Ola Volo with Michelle Hoogveld’s colourful, arch-filled paintings. The show brings two internationally recognized Canadian artists for a show that plays with memory, nature and imagined worlds. Catch it at Gibson Fine Art before it wraps on October 14.

Thursday

Pack a few crisp dollar bills and hit the first day of the Under $100 Art Show. It features more than 100 local artists for a weekend filled with paintings, photography, textiles and more, with every piece priced at, you guessed it, $100 or less. The opening reception kicks things off on Thursday evening.

Friday

Fluid Fest’s 360 DJ Party takes over Contemporary Calgary for a night of Afrobeats, amapiano, hip hop, dancehall, and a diverse range of global electronic sounds. Led by DJ Dooshima alongside Sage Tha Cat and sleepyandsmall, this contemporary performance festival afterparty invites everyone to move their hips over to the dance floor.

Saturday

Put on a bib and prepare to get a little messy for a good cause. The Bow Valley Pintails Seafood Boil serves up a Southern-style seafood feast alongside raffles, prizes and a silent auction, with proceeds supporting Ducks Unlimited Canada and wetland conservation. Seafood skeptics can also make a beeline for the brisket buffet instead, for the same ticket price of $50.

Sunday

Your carefully curated Spotify playlists have been preparing you for this moment: The Green Room at Alcove is bringing together DJs, producers, visual artists, photographers and other creatives for an afternoon workshop and mixer with fellow music-lovers. It’s drop-in, admission is by donation and coffee is complimentary.
