Hibernation is a little more entertaining this year.
And sociable.
After a couple of online-only and hybrid events, the 10th edition of the Calgary Underground Film Festival-curated documentary fest, CUFF.Docs, will return to an exclusively in-cinema experience Nov. 23 to 27 at the Globe.
Showcasing 15 features and 10 shorts, with several of the filmmakers in attendance for
Q&As after screenings, there’s plenty to get you out of the house and into the soft seats with other movie lovers and popcorn munchers.
“The industry is once again shifting, with filmmakers and distributors putting more importance on the theatrical screening of films,” festival director and lead programmer Brenda Lieberman said while announcing the lineup.
“A big highlight of this year’s festival is being able to bring filmmakers to Calgary, to celebrate their work on the big screen, and to give them the opportunity to watch their films with an audience.”
And among those films, there should be something for any and every taste and interest, including docs about Alberta’s Rat Patrol, the rise of women’s skateboarding, drag history in Vancouver, pigeon fanciers, Stephen King’s cinematic oeuvre and an iconic Toronto record store.
